UPDATE!! (May 15, 2010)
Through your generous donations, Three Strand Cord has been able to make an impact in the efforts to rebuild Haiti. We have been able to provide food for over 17,000 people, support 3 medical trips which have provided care to hundreds of patients and provide 6 water purification systems to three different ministries. The work continues in Haiti and Three Strand Cord looks forward to continuing to impact the country.

The disaster that has befallen our brothers and sisters in Haiti has only been eclipsed by the prayers and compassion of God's children coming to their aide. As many of you know, Three Strand Cord has been assisting medical and evangelical mission teams in Haiti for years. It is humbling to witness the outpouring of love and concern that has been expressed through the numerous phone calls and emails we have received regarding our Haitian friends. By God's grace, we have heard from most of our missionaries. However, the whereabouts of a few is still unknown. While there are many unanswered questions at this time, we do know that the need is great. Three Strand Cord has set-up a process for those who are led to donate. 100% of the donations for Haiti Earthquake Relief will be given directly to our missionary contacts serving in Haiti and other Christian relief organizations in an effort to meet the needs of those afflicted.

On a personal note, like many of you I do not have the answer regarding "Why did this happen?". But, I can pass on a truth the Lord revealed to me over 9 years ago when my infant daughter, Hannah Rose, passed away while taking her nap.
"The righteous perish, and no one ponders it in his heart; devout men (women and children) are taken away and no understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil." Isaiah 57:1
"As for God, His way is perfect. The word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shelter for all who take refuge in Him." 2 Samuel 22:31
"Trust in the ways of the Lord and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight." Proverbs 3:5-6
I have learned at times of great tragedy the question is not "Why?" but rather "What now?". The Lord will provide our Haitian friends the strength to go forward. Let us follow His example and run to the aide of those in need.

The Board of Three Strand Cord is working to determine what are the most immediate needs of those in country with whom Three Strand Cord is working. As particular needs are identified, funds will be sent to address them. Overall, however, the focus of Three Strand Cord's disaster relief is likely to be targeted on the second wave of needs, community and family rebuilding, rather than immediate relief as those immediate needs are more adequately served by larger agencies.
